It's the year of the Wood Snake!

A fresh wave of energy arrives with the New Moon in Capricorn and the Lunar New Year on January, 29. This marks our second chance at beginning anew, guided by the wisdom of the Wood Snake!

The Snake symbolises steady growth, calculated action, and patience—a yin energy that invites us to slow down, listen deeply and tune into our intuition. This is a beautiful time to commit to spiritual practices, refine long-term plans and shed the old layers that no longer serve us. Think quiet intensity and intentional transformation.

For me, the new year always feels more real after the Lunar New Year. And I’m hoping it will be the case this year too because life is life-ing! January in Vietnam has been a whirlwind of raw, tender moments—losing loved ones, listening to my grandparents share stories of the past, collecting roses and cooking for the celebrations. Being in a place so intertwined with my ancestors has left me feeling both deeply rooted and, at times, like a stranger.

This Capricorn New Moon carries an ancestral energy. It’s a moment to honour the legacy of those who came before us. If you’re spending time with family, may it bring healing and deeper connection. And if you’re apart, take a moment to reflect on your connection to your roots. What needs to be healed or released for you to move forward with ease?

This is also a powerful time to think about the legacy you wish to leave. What does your life look like when you align with your intentions? Let this New Moon inspire you to recommit to the promises you’ve made to yourself this year.

Practical Guidance for the New Moon and Lunar New Year:

  • Nourish your body: Add leafy greens like nettle or dandelion (fresh or as tea) and citrus fruits to your meals to support the liver which is ruled by the wood element.

  • Move mindfully: Practice qigong, yoga or any fluid movement to release pent-up energy and irritability.

  • Plan and reflect: Journal about your goals, dreams and the experiences you wish to create this year.

  • And celebrate!

May this New Moon and Year of the Wood Snake bring you clarity, connection and growth.
